When NOT to use an agent team
An agent team is overkill — and sometimes harmful — for problems that look bigger than they are.
Not every workflow earns a team. Some earn a single prompt. Some earn a script. Some earn a phone call.
Skip the team when
- The work happens once a quarter
- Outputs need a regulated human signature
- The volume is low and the stakes are high
- There is no clear definition of 'good output' yet
If you cannot describe the success metric in one sentence, do not build the team. Build a single prompt, watch it for two weeks, then decide.
