Tooling: which MCPs to wire to which agents
Every tool an agent can call is also a tool it can misuse. Grant access by role, not by team.
It is tempting to give every specialist every tool 'just in case'. Resist. Every tool widens the surface where things can go wrong.
A useful default mapping
- Copy — search, CMS, asset library
- SEO — search, analytics, sitemap tools
- Ops — calendar, task tracker, internal docs
- Finance — accounting API (read), invoicing (write, queued)
- Customer — CRM (read), email drafts (write, queued)
Add tools when a role is clearly bottlenecked. Remove tools that have not been called in 30 days. Lean teams age better.
